Fuel injecting Rover V8
Simon - 24/2/06 at 11:13 PM

As title suggests

Does anyone have any idea on parts requirements (ie a list) and likely cost?

Shoul I get a later type timing cover and other such changes too

Going on my 3.5l 9.35:1 SD1 engine.

Cheers very much

If I decide to inject my westfield I'll be going with a 4 barrel throttle body and a megasquirt system from Bill Shurvinton. I would hope to be able to do it for 5-600 quid. Get some money back on my big carb though.

Going to practice with the mega-squirt stuff on the locost first though.

Is the 4 barrel throttle body widely available, or something that'll need making.

I'd thought about megasquirt, as at some point in the (distant) future I want to turbo the V8.

For looks alone it has to be two sets of bike throttle bodies combined with megasquirt. That's the way I hope to go one day.

Simon,

I have most of the parts required but no wireing loom and an old ecu unit. was going to put them on ebay one day, but if you are interested u2u me.

it could take me a week or so to dig them out of storage and list the items but does include a manifold ,plenum chamber, airflow meter and some other bits..

removed from a 3.5efi landrover 1988

* This has started me thinking about mega squirt instead of a big card ?

You can buy it from Bill along with the mega-squirt stuff.

You can see it here on spag's v8 mini site.

It's pretty compact compared to the alternatives, especially bike throttle bodies although they do look nice I wouldn't want anything stuck out of the bonnet like that that I'd have to clean

cost wise i think squirting an old hotwire system is the cheapest way to go, i sold darren,s my hotwire system with loom and ecu for 150 which is about the going rate, ive used the weber 500 before and they fetch 300ish second hand and work pretty well but im going for the r1 carb setup thaqt rwd kurt is using on his mk which so far has cost me 100 for two sets of carbs and the conversion from boggs is 600 including all carb mods . if you want to spend a few qiud id look for a 95 3.9 motor which has the big main caps and is ready for cross bolting .they spin up to 6000 much better than the 3.5 and have miles better oil pressure. my old 3.5 did 10psi at idle and 30 peak which is pretty good but the serp engine does 25psi at idle and 50 peak. you know how it feels a bit rough over 4500 thats where the sd1 engine struggles with the older mains caps having such a small register locating the cap to the block ,in their original application sd1 landrover range rover they would rarely be revved any harder than 4000 but in a low geared roadster they have to work a lot harder, a stiff block 3.5 i used to run did less than 10,000 miles of fairly spirited driving before the mains caps had worn the registers in the block

I would go for Hotwire.

The 3.9 hotwire system will work with 3.5 ( my setup but I am still over fuelling at the moment ) a trip to the rolling road should fix that.

I am also not running the lambda sensors.

I am als running shortened trumpets and westfield plenum.

The best thing is the starting and tick over just turn the key and it atomatically adjust to the 750 rpm tickover

Can take some photoes if required.

I picked a couple of bits up from Bill Shurvinton last week and he was in the middle of wiring up a MSnS-E to go onto a RV8 Bobcat.

I'm sure if you give him a shout he'll be able to point you in the direction.
