sump gasket
JoelP - 25/2/06 at 10:01 PM

i need to put a sump back on my zx9 engine, but cant find a gasket on ebay, which is odd. Should i get one from a main dealer or use a tube of gasket paste? Are there any possible dangers of bungling gasket paste everywhere?!

cheers.

£1 sheet of gasket paper and cut one out.
Tap a ball bearing on the holes to cut then out . Neat and accurate.

i knew someone would suggest that! The one thing i dont fancy trying... i'll give it a go. I assume you get gasket paper from a motor factor?

Hijack alert. What grade of paper would you have to use for the old sump of justice because I can't find one for my cvh either?

IIRC CVH sumps had a rubber gasket that needs to seal the main bearing housing . Wouldn't have thought that gasket paper would seal . Your local engine reconditioners should be able to supply one.

Parts places will supply cvh gaskets i would have thought.

As for the ZX9 one. It depends how much you wanna spend i would imagaine a dealer would charge a fortune for one. Or just a couple of quid for a sheet of gasket paper and half hour of your time. Gasket papers easy to work with.

Ta for that. Still haven't opened her up yet but found a head set and bolts ok.

I made one for each side of ZX9 baffle, but in the end I threw them and used instant gasket instead.
