Correct, they are in two types of Corolla AE86 (RWD) and AE92 (FWD)

Plus Trueno's and Sprinters (Jap only), i think.

The earlier Phase 1 and Phase 2 engines can be found in the mr2's and ae86 corrolla. The better (im my opinion) Phase 3 comes from the ae92 corrolla gti

Also the AE82 Corolla. More boxy shape than the later AE92.

COREdevelopments - 28/3/06 at 04:49 PM

ae82 had early version tvis like mr2. ae92 are the best ones to have as they have stronger block. some early ae92 as in E to F reg had the tvis type ones too. look for a ae92 scrapper as the arches and sill probably dont exist, but the engine should be sound.

All Corolla-derived models (Sprinter/Levin/Trueno)
AE8* 84-87
AE9* 88-91
AE10* 91-94
AE11* 95-00

Check here for full details.

I agree with all those above, plus i thought i would be good to have a post with as many 4AGE users as possible!

I'm trying to find a 20v 4A-GE in the states. I know they were never sold here, so I'd have to import it from JDM. Anyone know of a state-sider who has fitted a 20v?

I like the 20v because it's 160hp stock.

I think that 160bhp figure was a bit optimistic on Toyota's part I'm still using one though...

I'm running a 4AG motor in my car. I've got the early 3 rib block, with the later small port head, running 294 duration cams, Mega-Jolt ignition and currently 40 dcoes. But, i'm in the process of swapping the Webers for a set of CBR900 bike carbs.

As for a Locost builder in the US with a 20 valve, Dr. Hess on the locost NA board has been building one.

Cheers,
Rod

The Toyota figures are very likely from an engine dyno without the usual anciliaries attached. I've had a lot of them and they tend to read below the quoted figures!

The dyno I use is a Sun eddie current chassis dyno in Cheltenham. Though the figures obtained are usually lower than most others I've seen it regularly measures factory figures from a lot of cars. For example Honda type Rs at 197BHP and my Audi TDi at 89BHP (factory 90BHP).

RAW engineering use this dyno for mapping and they sell a lot of the 20Vs in this country. The average figures for standard engines I've seen are below.

Silvertop 20V 142 BHP @ 7400 RPM
Blacktop 20V 147 BHP @ 7800 RPM

Both engines produce about 110-112 lbs ft of torque with 80-90 % of max torque being produce from 2500 RPM to 7000 RPM.

I mostly see inertia roller dynos used in the US which are fine so long as you only compare like for like. From my observations they tend to give a higher figure than the dynos I've used.
