x-flow engine numbers

ive just got a x-flow engine,the engine number looks like UE 27900
and the number cast in the block is :-
681-F -6015-HA,can anyone help on age and engine size please

easiest way to tell the size is fingers between bottom of stat housing and water pump,2 is 11/1300.3 is 1600

March 1968 according to Burtons !!

AS stated, it's a 68 block. Get yourself a free Burtons catalogue, a page in there lists all the codes and dates.

You have an early crossflow, really you want a 711M 6015 BA engine, 1970 onwards it's a better stronger block than the one you have.

i do have two 711 engines,one is siezed and the other has been outside for about 20 years so both need a rebuild,the 68 engine was a cheeper option than a full rebuild after all my car was meant to be a LOCOST ?? thanks for ll your help

the last two letters are engine capacity;

from memory AA = 1300
BA = 1600

or soemthing like that

although the 711 is the more desirable, don't worry about not having one of those; it should be fine.
