I'm having some problems sourcing the hoses I need to get the cooling system sorted... and that's about the only thing between me and turning the key for the first time!!! (electrics now pretty much OK I think!)

I'd like to get all black simple (cheap) not logo'd hoses in a variety of sizes (38, 32, 20 and 8 id) in short straight and angled pieces (mostly 90's but maybe a couple of 45's, thinner pipes will probably bend enough as straight lengths I hope)... trouble is I'm struggling to find anywhere who has any.... Tried CBS, Europa and RS - but nothing really. Local motor factors want parts numbers and makes/years which is no good...

has anyone got any good ideas??

Halfords do universal flexy hose in various sizes and reducers.

If you want silicon, try highbury hose 01283 217750, im sure someone told me they make them for samco, just without the name printed on.

Why so many sizes of hose? I'e pretty much sorted my cooling system this week and i've only used 32mm for the main to and from engine/radiator hoses and 10mm (sorry 9.5) for connections to the header tank off some fabricated t-pieces.

latest in my archive under 'build march 06' shows how i've routed it.

I think my engine has different hoses to yours Ned! The main water 'out' is from a 38mm hose which curls round the 'back' of the engine, the water 'in' is 32mm. Radiator main pipes are 32mm. The heater hoses are 20mm and the breather from the radiator is 8mm!!! Did you blank off the heater ports? I'm going for a black and silver engine bay so could do with black hoses.... and didn't want to pay for silicon - though actually might end up easiest!

I'm planning to do the plumbing as in the sbd diagram here

Go to your local motoer factor who stocks Gates hoses and have a flick through the Gates catalogue. They show all the sizes and have reducers if required.
I sorted all of my plumbing with a dozen 90 degree bends and hose joiners from Rally design. Looks neat and business like.

yes, that how mine is done, minus the heater outlet and the inlet manifold bleed. my water pump outlet is only 32mm, don't understand where you're getting 38mm from ?!

I'm not sure why, but the water pump outlet is 38mm diameter! I've checked lots of times and even used my new fancy digital calipers but it's definately different to the inlet side - which I can't explain.

Oh well!

On nights this week, so will try some other motor factors during the day if I manage some sleep!

look in nfs - they do long lengths of 90 degree hose in suitable diameters (better than the halfords corrugated donkey knob hoses)

thanks for all the replies - it looks like I was just being over optimistic about costs for this bit - just need to bite the bullet and get ordering I suppose.... just don't want to cock up the measuring now!

Really?! How much is this bit (just hoses?) costing you?

As advised above went to Motor Factors today - differnt one from usual, who had a Gates catalogue, and ordered a load of stuff that should be ideal - they had loads of pictures with dimensions.

My estimate for silicone for the job was £120 ex VAT, got all the stuff from Gates for £65 inc VAT - and should have a few spare bits if I didn't measure perfectly - very happy!
