Gear lever question

What is this bit and will it cut off, it is just where my remote linkage will weld on.

its a rubber bush inside,angle grinder normally removes it

To put it more technically it de-tunes the gear lever from its resonant frequency.

Heating with a blow lamp will de-bond it allowing easy removal -- but take care the type of synthetic rubber it is made off produces small ammounts of really nasty acids if burned --- don't get it on your skin, it gets into your flesh he only way to get rid of it is to cut out the surrounding area of tissue.

If you hold the bottom of the lever in a vice and apply brute force to the top secton you can get it to shear, burning it out is not very clever as the burnt elastomer is very very nasty.

Saw it off above and below and weld it back together at the length you want. While you're at it go to Dave Andrews page and use his quickshift tips on it, really makes a difference as in big improvement.
