only really an issue if your exhaust is directly below the carbs....you've not pulled it out of an old mini or MG have you?
I'd also argue that you want the shield as close to the exhaust and away from the carbs as possible ; air is a good insulator and a nice solid sheet above the exhaust will stop most convection.

it is a non crossflow engine for another kitcar and yes the DCOE is very close to the exhaust . I have lagging on the exhaust, but the more the better - it is rear engined so does get hot in there. Following that idea, I may get a scrap piece of alloy and over it in spare lagging tape and bolt that to the bottom of the carb as well
