Clutch Pedal Leverage
Dusty - 15/4/06 at 04:53 PM

Just changed to floor mounted pedal box with cable operated clutch, type 9 box. Current clutch pedal leverage ratio is 3:1 and it's far too heavy.
Suggestions please for a more sensible ratio.

4:1, 5:1...... Depends upon what you consider too heavy really. Try 4:1 then just keep going up, if poss, to something that feels right for you.

new cable?

the indy has about 3:1 clutch ratio, and i'd never have deemed mine 'heavy'

heavier than a tin top, but then you'd expect that imho.

The clutch type will make a difference too. My setup has a type 9 box and a Toyota clutch. The pedal ratio is 4:1.

Remember the higher the ratio , the more pedal travel you need for the same release arm movement

I would like 7/1 but can't extend the footwell to the radiator to get enough range.

Pedal is 150mm long so 35mm arm length will give a ratio of 4.3:1, 30% decrease in cable pulled and 30% less effort. (I think. Not brilliant at maths.)
