Oil Pump Leaking (xflow)
xxx - 30/4/06 at 11:01 AM

Hi I have a 1300 xflow and its started to leak oil quite badly out of the end of the oil pump. I have attatched pics (hopefully) of the pump and end-plate! I have taken the end cover off (3 11mm bolts) and I cant seem to find a seal at all! Does anyone know if there should be a sealer ring or something and where I can get one from? If not, any ideas of how to seal the join?

The pump

The end plate

Sorry while Im on the subject of oil...

Once Ive got the above sealed Im going to do an oil and filter change, will 15/40 enhanced mineral oil be ok for the 1300 crossflow?

Thanks again

Colin

For the oil you want valvoline 20/50 racing oil. By far the best for the crosflow. You can get it from burtons for about £20 for 5 litres. Also use a champion c108 oil filter with the non return valve, so save your filter draining when stood for a while (think they are meant for cvh and other ford engines.

Also try SCC for Valvoline around 15 quid

Reference the pump. Chances are that most likely the Alloy body of the pump has distorted rather than the metal plate. IIRC there is no seal between the two just a highly finished pair of matched flat mating surfaces. You could try removing both and items and refinishing/flating both surfaces with a sheet of 1000grit emery paper laid on a piece of thick float/plate glass, OR just replace the pump with a new uprated unit they are not that dear and the chances are that the old one will still leak.

Sorry Mr giant, I beg to differ.
My crossflow has just done the same thing!
There is an 'o' ring, about 2" diameter in the body of the pump. After time it goes flat and starts to leak. Fortunately I had another pump to borrow the new 'o' ring from and all was well. I'll take a pic sometime.
