
A few weeks ago I came across a Fazer 1000 engine on ebay. A complete engine apart from carbs. I bought the engine as a spare because you never
know
. Question is, my fazer engine (in the car at the moment) seems to be running fine, so what do I do with the spare. It was sold to me as a
perfect runner, not to sure of age, but looks like new. Is there an easy way to test if good or not or do I strip it down and recondition it (never
having done this to a bike engine before).

you should give it away to me and ill test it for you!!
you could swap them and test it, surely not more than a days fiddling. Then you can be sure it has clean oil etc, plus your old engine will have had
recent use. Then you could swap them every year.
The alternative is just leaving it as is, maybe research if there is anything along the lines of
storage oil or something similar. 
Id hang on to it you never know what could happen to engine in car but fingers crossed nowt will, Bike engines are making good money at the mo and you
can garantee if you want one it will be mega bucks, Or re build it big bore kit change the cams polish crank bla bla 
I'd definately hang onto it. When I lost 2nd and 3rd gears on mine out it came and my £250 spare engine got stuck in. As Joel says, not much
more than a day / weekends work to do the swap.
But I'd be interested to hear about any suggestions for storage, cause I've now got an engine that needs a strip and re-build. But then
I'd want it to be stored right. Just in case!

Strip it down and recondition it Leigh. Just remember to put it all back together again in the right order. Then hang onto it as a spare.
