
Ok - looks like I have the opposite problem to DarrenW...
I put my engine and box in and forgot to fill the gearbox with OIL
Is there a neat way of filling it - with it in situ? - and a way to repeat fill - in case I have leaky g/box probs too?

I opened the top plate on mine and filled it from there. As long as you know how much should go in you should be ok. I can't remember how much but if it's a type 9 or MT75 then the Haynes book will tell you.
If you look at the Tech support section on www.burtonpower.com it has the oil capacities for all the ford boxes.

Getting it into Type 9 is dead easy. Top cover is held down with 10 off short 10mm hex bolts. Carefull you dont damage gasket when taking off. Inside
you will see where the normal screw is that you should fill from. Fill gearbox till level is at the bottom of the plug - sorted.
Stoopping the bugger coming out is a challenge

Er... I'm not sure I have access to those bolts :-(

Do you have access to the level plug at all?
I managed to get a tube into the box from inside the car and got an old bottle of gear oil and cut the bottom off to make a funnel that would fit onto
the pipe then poured carefully until it reached the level hole.
Schrodinger - yup that's more the style - I don't know where this plug is?
I have hand width access to either side of the gearbox - but the top plate is underneath the scuttle panel.
I was considering putting a hole in the drivers footwell, inline with the fill-up hole (as told it was down there) but can't seem to locate
it?

Type 9 gearbox filler is on pasenger side (unless youv`e got a left hand drive car!).
I went the gear oil bottle route just filled box with an extension pipe in the end of the standard gear oil bottle neck, if that makes sense?
Dead easy mate, if you can't get to the top of the box, find the filler/level plug on the side of the box, then holesaw a hole in the ally side of the transmission tunnel level with the filler plug and job's a goodun. Just put a rubber grommet in the hole afterwards. I did this and use a 1/2 drive extension bar with hex drive on the end to undo the filler plug through the hole, then fill it with the normal extended neck oil bottle.
Doh!!!
