hi, does anyone know what the oil filter thread size of a 1800 zetec is? its a xr3i 1800 from 1992. i would check myself but the engine is miles away at the mo!!

Filters often have the thread size printed on the can. Trip to your factors/Halfords if its closer than the engine?

I reckon it is 3/4 UNF; I can check for sure tonight (if I remember....)

Something I found to be aware of is that the threads on some filters are M20 and will screw onto 3/4"UNF engine studs, but with limited depth of engagement. I tried a short Renault filter, Halfords HOF266)which would clear my steering column on two Zetec oil pumps. On the one it would grip, but on the other it gave stripped thread symptoms. When I investingated with a vernier caliper I found a slight difference in the OD of 2 male threads was just enough to grip on the one pump, but the engagement was very poor due to the 1mm difference in the thread diameters.

did you look at: HOF 249, large dia. bidy but short, 3/4 UNF thread.

If you are looking for a shorter filter try one from the fiesta as that is much shorter than the standard Zetec filter.

i am atcually looking to fit a sandwich plate for an oil cooler.

i found one on ebay that also allows me to plumb in a oil pressure gauge as well.

i may need a shorter filter so thats a good tip! cheers!
