How do I go about sizing a radiator? Anyone know a good idiots guide?

The engine builder reckons I'm going to get 300kW and from memory the waste heat out of the rad is about the same as the engine power. Seems a heck of a lot of heat to get rid of through a small radiator opening.

Did some calcs on the back of a fag packet and reccon I'd have to do 887.89mph to pass enough air to cool it - must be a mistook somewhere

More I talk about it more anxious I get!!

SD1 or early Range Rocer rad - basically fit the biggest ytou can get in the area and the right number of cores.

get a 72 degree stat and try and stop the heat building up in the first place the rover runs best at around 80c biggest rad that will fit preferably four core and shroud the fan so that it draws through the whole core not just where the fan is . i used a 16" fan on my last v8 and made a shroud to cover the whole core and also ducted the front to force the air through and it never went above 80c even in summer, ducts on nthe die of the bonnet will help too as its a big lump of ally and once they get over 90c they tend to lose power and smell a bit off. rover had to make them run hotter to keep up with emissions and had no end of trouble with cracked blocks and hoses blowing off on the later 4.0 and 4.6 engines

petrol engine peaks at about 33% efficiency. So for every kW at the flywheel 2 come out as heat. I dare say the lion's share of that heat is in the exhaust. Still equivalent to a 300 bar electric fire going through the rad.......

I've got a VW polo rad in Deimos

Had some quite hot weather (with 82 deg thermo) and it's been fine - though engine is standard till the summer, when it'll be injected and turbo'ed

Might have to rethink then!!!
