Hi Guys,
Is there an easy way of cleaning up my old Sierra diff, or is it just a matter a wire wheel and lots of effort.
Dave
Wire brushes, dremel, screwdriver, parafin and loads of elbow grease. But it is worth the effort in the end.
Phil
Stick it in a bucket of path cleaner, let it fizzel overnight and pressure wash the next day.
Best and easiest thing after going the oven cleaner and all the other routes is the following:
Spray on brake cleaner and a wire brush
You'll have it clean in 10 minutes ready for painting.
Liberally keep spraying all over and rubbing with the wire brush.
Then one final spray to clean all the dust/debris off.
You may go through 2 aerosol bottles though.
But it works.

I used ordinary paint thinners put on with a paint brush and gently worked in then blew off with an air compressor. Nice and clean!
heres what mine looked like after a pressure wash with steam and a good going over with Gunk degreaser and a good old scrape with a screwdriver to get
into the little nooks and crannies.

I made some rubber plugs to cover all holes, and chucked it in the bead blaster.
Then paint

sand blast attachment on a pressure washer did it for me
