hi guys
i'm new to the board after looking around while researching, i was wanting to know if anyone knows if the old essex v6 engine and the newer v6 cosworth that came in the ford scorpio 24v are the same or totaly different, it would help me as i have a spare essex v6 that i can mesure up while building then simply swap them over if they are the same or if i need to get the engine and then build it up?

also what are the tuining options on the cosworth engines , i know theres plenty of options around for the essex.

cheers chris

they are totally different. one built in essex UK the other in Colone Germany.

i've heard the cossie one is a bit tricky with all the electrics. heavy engines but nice if you can fit it

the BOB engine from teh frog eye scorpio is hard to wire in using the frog eye electrics,

but the BOA engine from the granada is a piece of pee!!!!

I have one fitted to my Capri, and with BOB Cams in it, you can boost the bhp to 236bhp from the original 200bhp.

They are very heavy though, and in a kit car, might be worth looking at the duratec 2.5v6 ( or 3.0 v6 ) as these are all alli, and make 170bhp upwards.

disadvantage to the duratec is they they are a 90deg block, so they are wide, where as the 24v cossie is a 60 deg block.

aren't duratec post 1995 hence stricter emissions? you'll need efi to pass; carbs won't manage it.

Naah the duratecs are 60 degrees like most V6s are.

Most are happy with just 100-150!
