Hi all i went for a ride today and the engine blew some oil out the oil filler breather it has never happend before . Can any body tell me what could cause this please . Jacko

Easy - blocked crankcase breather.

Hard - valve stem seals / rings / blown head gasket.

I had loads of oil blowing out of the breather when my valve stem seals went.

Have you removed the one way Valve in the crank case breather?

In the Sierra it uses vaccume pressure from the carb to open the valve to let the crank case fumes out.

You've probably already done it but hopefully its that and nothing more serious!

Had the same thing on my Transit once, Piston had gone, Same engine isnt it?

I can't remember if its removable or if we had to drill it out, but its in the bung that plugs into the crank case breather.

With the 40's we then ran the pipe to a little breather filter but we probably should have changed to a catch tank really.

does this stop rocker cover pressure ?

It did on ours yes, before it was forcing it out of the oil filler hole on the cam.

The increase in pressure in the crank case must presurise the oilways and therefor the cam cover
