hello!
I wanted to know what problems there are with the scorpio diff (bug eyed), as there are guides on here to swop the internals with a sierra, but i
wanted to know why the whole unit cant just be swapped? help appreciated,
joel
Have a look under the scorp at the diff. Later bug-eyes have a big rubber bush mount growing out of the side of the rear cover. You might be able to
chop it off or use a rear cover from an earlier diff. Otherwise it's just a normal 7.5" diff, which is generally bigger and heavier than a
sierra 7" diff. Lots of the manufacturers make their chassis able to take a 7.5" diff (the top mount is wider and spacers are used when a
7" is fitted) but if yours is self built to fit a sierra diff then you will probbaly have to mod your mount. It will have bolt on shafts too, so
if you currently have push ins there's another incompatibility.
Probably not worth it to be honest. It's bigger and heavier than a 7" and if it's just that particular ratio you're after, get a
3.38 7" from a diesel sierra. They're not too hard to come by, it's the 3.14s that are rocking horse poo.
