Just dropped the beast off for an MoT after the engine swap (pinto out, E36 325 straight six in) - serious butterflies!
Haven't been on the motorway yet, but the way the gearbox / diff have mated have left it with pretty short gearing. I think it's an XR4 x 4
LSD (so is that going to be 3.62?). Does anyone know if I can get the diff re-geared to raise this a bit - short gears are fun and everything, but
from the way this thing pulls I suspect it will limit my top speed, and mean stopping to re-fuel every 100 miles on the motorway... Comfortable
cruising in 5th at 40mph at revs I was hoping to use at about 70mph!
Also getting a fairly substantial clonk from the transmission when you go from acceleration to engine braking - MoT guys going to have a quick look at
it, but any suggestions welcome. Thanks!
Clunk going from drive to over-run will be play in the prop or diff.
Check your diff and hubs are all bolted up tight and if it's not that then the diff is prob worn.
I think you can get 3.14 diffs. Also, you can get new gear sets for the T9 but you would probably be looking at £500 plus. I close ratio set with long

Good point. Bit early. Brain isn't fully engaged.

Does the 3.62 refer to the number of times the propshaft turns for one revolution of the driveshafts? There is a 3.14 on the list that I got off here
somewhere. But still, say that x propshaft rpm =45 mph with a 3.62 diff, 45 X 3.62 / 3.14 = 52mph... not a huge difference. Is my maths right?!
ISTR the E36 M3 had a ratio of 3.15, good for 150mph+, Similar Sierra diff from a diesel jobbie is around that figure, so should be fine.
