Ford engines - which destruct if cambelt snaps
Just - 9/6/06 at 11:33 PM

Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb. Specifically are the 1.8 and 2.0 SOHC engines from the Sierra interference or not, I have heard the 2.0 isn't but the 1.8 is?

Those that do
CVH
DOHC

Those that may do (no experience with thesee yet)
Zetec
Duratec
Pinto 1.8

Those that dont
Pinto 2.0 (checked on a head at full lift - unless the piston goes up into the combustion chamber - not a chance)
Pinto 1.6, will work after a bust cambelt

I have come across a 2 litre Pinto with bent valves after cam belt faliure.

2 litre pintos wont bend valves unless the head been skimmed a lot and the block is decked. Chances are on a very high performance engine you might bend valves, on a std one you wont.

Most of the 16v engines will bend valves/punch holes in pistons is the belt breaks.

The 1.8 & 2.0 Zetecs self destruct in a BIG way.
I would think the smaller ones do as well.
