Its probably a school boy error, but I filled my gearbox while engine and gearbox on the garage floor. When I lifted the engine with the hoist, it tiped back and most of the oil came out the back. Is this normal, or do I have a seal problem in my gearbox?
quite normal, prop needs to be in to keep the oil in!
phew thats a relief...
Stinks, doesn't it.
put oil all over my matesdriveway (wasn't popular that day) ended up upending it on the crane to drain all the oil and refilling once engine was
fitted. other option would have been to cut down the rubber donut prop end and use it as a bung/oil seal.
Ned.
where do you refill and how much to put in???
filler hole is on passenger side of box, can't do it with the tranny tunnel panels on very easily. quantity as per haynes book. 2.5 or 3 litres
off top of my head basically until it spills out the hole.
Ned.
tip for you if you cant do it with the box in the tunnell
get a spare propshaft - and remove its end - cable tie it into the end of the box and put the engine in
then remove the spare end, and fit the proper one
if its sitting in tunnel with no prop in! and i fill it up will it just leak out!! if not i can get to the filler hole!
if the box is sitting level filling with the required amount it shouldn't overflow out of the rear oil seal ie it'll be fine - unless you
need to tip it up again!!
Ned.
great, i took the lid off removed the large screw and topped up until it just about came out!
it only took a litre to top up!!
