Hi
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a 3.14 Sierra LSD? Got a 3.62 LSD at the moment, and the gears run out long before the power does! First is
pretty much redundant...
If anyone wants to swap, more than happy to!
Dave
PS Bit of white smoke when starting up, and at high revs. Oil and water clean, but coolant level goes up when running, and back down to slightly lower
than it was before when cold. Am I right in thinking this is probably the start of something expensive involving the head gasket?
PPS Thanks to all those who hav ehelped with oiil problems etc. but I'm not going to Le Mans at all now because the girlfriend is in hospital!
Check out the timing on her!
you're much more liekly to find a 3.38 than a 3.14 some diesel sierra's are supposed to carry them...
Ned.
Coolant goes up when running as it gets hot and expands!
A bit of smoke when starting isn't anything to worry about so long as it's a bit.
i dont think you can get 3.14 lsd's, and they are very rare anyway, so people are more likely to swap you a 3.38, as ned said.
Sometimes quite a lot of white smoke when starting, but not too bad today. What about when at revs?
Diff... 3.38 sounds good, I think a lot of the BMW guys with the same engine as me swap their 3.15 diffs for about 3.46, so 3.38 would be great.
Anyone know a good source for them? In Manchester area.
Thanks!
for your best chance you need to find a 2.3d sierra, scrappies, ebay, donorspares etc etc and check the dif is the correct ratio you're after ie look at dif tag and count the rotations is you can as the tags can be swapped..
White smoke is probably unburnt fuel, especially on start up with a cold engine.
It'll be a bit of oil getting past the valve stem seals, I don't worry about it on my pinto. It helps lubricate the piston on startup and
James Bond paid extra to have it on his car
. If it's not affecting the oil level to any degree ignore it.
3.14 = non-lsd (and getting rare/pricey)
You'd have to convert with a kit.
Land-Rover diff?
by the way scrappies that take the parts off for you are probably your best bet, as some dont have a clue what these make in the kitcar worl. ie i brought either a 3.38 or 3.14 (i will find out today!!!) for £25, if its a 3.14 itll be worth well over £100 on here or ebay.
Cheers chaps!
Does seem to be a bit of carbon building up inside the end of the exhaust... so next question is why is that happening on a BMW 325 E36 engine with
original engine management and all sensors?! No fault codes... Been suggested that the ECU is confused due to higher flowing filter and exhaust, but I
thought it was meant to compensate for stuff like that by itself? It is rapid though
even from 25mph in 5th at the moment! Try that in your BEC!
LOL. So thats why you CEC boys are so slow. The only gear on a BEC that sees 25mph is 1st. In fact 1st will see most mph all the way up to 60. Try
that in your CEC
Phil
Slow eh?
Well, there's a fella down the road selling an M3 engine for £400; should be a straightforward swap for my current 325 engine
That's after the bottom end knock's been sorted out, of course...
Tempting!
And I wonder why I never have any beer tokens!
dem engines do suffer from cracked heads, could be water burning off, head expands when it gets hot and seals leak.
whip the plugs out and see if 1 or more have a white deposit on the insulator
