Just wanted to tell someone.......
those of you that know me know that i've had flywheel / starter motor problems for the last few years.
I've got new flywheels / ring gear and just recently a new starter ......
no joy
Dad's round, he starts counting teeth and the like. i'm like "done that" but I humor him. Explain for the umpteenth time that the
chamfer is on the clutch therefore peg side ........ and he retorts, so whats wrong with this one then. Turns out i've had the correct flywheel
for the last (cough) years and just didn't realise as it was always at the back of the pile of pre-engaged ones. Fitted it and ........
IT WORKS!
for the first time in my life i've given my dad a hug, poor bloke didn't know what to do with a 32 year old lad hugging him. Got to wonder
what was wrong with the 50 quid one Burton sent me and how i get my money back ....... but who cares
I'm so happy i'm now about to go out and get very merry

Dads have their uses! Other than embarrassing the kids, that is (one of my main pleasures in life).
Glad to know you're sorted.
David
Does this mean you have a cheap (now 2nd hand
) flywheel lying about spare?
no, i've not got one.......
i've got errm ........ two, no three, errm, you know i'm not sure.
except one has a ring gear that burton sold that will engage, then jam and then you've got to take the starter out to free.
so defo got ...
1 interia lightened ex-caterham super sport - mentioned above ie don't work
1 pre-engaged balanced with lots of holes (i got it like that)
Might have 1 more pre-engaged.
once i'm happy this flywheel works then i'll start the clear out (knowing me sometime in 2010)
Sounds like your well happy.
Bet your dad was one of the ones who always told you on xmas morning "read the instructions first"

It's amazing how a new pair of eyes looking at a job can see the problem staring you in the face.
God bless Dad's!!!

I've done the same type of thing myself. Spent all day trying to fit a crank in an a series. Plastigauge it, cleaned down the crank, the block,
the oil ways, everything. Took 2-3hrs getting ready to put the damn thing in. Then it wouldn't turn! Couldn't for the life of me figure out
what was wrong. Then a friend turns up, takes one bloody look at it and spots the centre bearing cap is on back to front!
I did feel more than a
little stupid, but grateful at the same time.
