Those of you with zetecs.

Morning. You chaps that are running zetecs and the standard thermostat housing. How hard do your hoses get after its been ran up to temp??

Monkeybasher - 7/7/06 at 11:31 AM

not very hard at all.

Very hard pipes could be a head gasket, cylinder compression entering the water circuit If you do have hard pipes check for bubbling in the tank with the cap off.

nope mine just get hot - not hard

Make sure you take the little feed on top of the thermostat housing back to the header tank - that bleeds off all the air!

That's the only one that seems to carry pressure on my setup (pic in archive of plumbing)

I had to change my 8PSI rad cap for a 15PSI one. As long as the cap is not venting the presure in your system should be OK.

mine get hot and fairly hard with no problem on engine frount

Cooling system on a zetec is fairly high pressure.

Standard cap is 120kPa - only 75 for most vehicles.

If it hasnt blown water everywhere via the rad cap, you *probably* havent got a problem...

Danozeman - 10/7/06 at 05:21 AM

It hasnt blown anything anywhere and its a new gasket etc. Runs pefectly so i think ill see how it goes.

I've seen similar on a VX powered car with rubber hoses. If you don't have cooling issues then I wouldn't worry too much.
