Needles for R1 carbs
TangoMan - 10/7/06 at 10:33 PM

Anyone got a list of the available needles for R1 carbs (Mikuni BDSR40).

I am looking to fine tune the mixture so need to see what variations there are on the standard needle.

P.S . you are suffering from GIANT avatar syndrome ( GAS)

Thanks Dave.

I have that list but I guess it is out of date. My needles are 6 series but are coded 6DEY5-53.

I may just need to get the digital verniers out and measure at the relevant points to see how it compares with those listed.

I am keen that when I go for a RR session, I have options for the needles knowing that it is rich on part throttle.

I was playing with the avatar but need to upload a smaller picture.

Have you tried dropping the needle, or changing the needle jet? I know this isn't always possible, but there should be a way to achieve it. A mate of mine who used to tune race engines made his own needles. Small lathe, plenty of wet & dry & patience!

I wasn't planning to mkae one but was hoping to get a needle which gives a weak mixture so I could freduce it as required to give a correct mixture at all throttle openings.

I am on the last groove for the circlip but wonder if I could get a new groove turned into the top.
