Hi All,
I am struggling to get my sump plug out without rounding it off. I tried all the usual, Ive even had an impact wrench on it but it wont budge, any
hints before I get the gas axe out.
Adam
use a center punch on the outer edge of the sump plug and belt away in an upwards direction
put a socket on it with a tight fit hope this helps
Put a large nut over it and plug weld it on, when it cools it will be finger tight
Mark's plan is a good one that I've used a few times before (but not on sumps).
When the welded on nut cools it shrinks and compresses the plug by a tiny amount and should loosen it.
Just don't set fire to any oil...
ah the trusty 1/2" ford sump plug----if i had a quid for every--------
b*****d things drive you mad.
Warm it up ,the heat will melt the plastic sealing washer and allow it to come undone. If the hexagon is rounded do as Mark suggests. New bungs and sealing washers are not expensive
Mine rounded and I got it out with a good Mole grip, new one was about 80p from the motor factor across the road.
