Engine stand Bolt size for Rover V8
donut - 20/7/06 at 08:02 AM

Need to mount my V8 to the engine stand but have not got any bolts that are the right size. Any idea what size i need? The bolts go in the flywheel end so they will be the same size as for the bellhousing i guess.

Do i really sound like i know what i'm talking about?

you'll need something to couter balance the weight as well............. 2x pintos maybe ?

donut - 20/7/06 at 08:12 AM

Cheeky!!

A RV8 is just a gnats nadger heavier than a Pinto but with a better sound track!!

i'd love a v8 sound in mine but when it used £10 worth of petrol just ticking over in the drivway on a sunday whilst i'm setting up megasquirt i dont think i'll be changing

havent got a clue what bolts you need either lol

30+ mpg!! (if set up right) Better than my pinto

possibly 3/8UNC bolts or or 3/8UNF nuts on studs?

donut - 20/7/06 at 09:24 AM

The UNF bolts i have have too fine a thread and the block has a corse thread. Any idea what the name for it is?

give these a ring, they will probs be able to supply the part you need as well

They are definately UNC thread and just slightly smaller than 10mm so, I am guessing at 3/8 of an inch.

I have several holding my V8 on the stand at the moment. Can't remember the exact size though.. Doh!

UNC = Unified Coarse
UNF = Unified Fine

AHA! Thanks

Could they be 7/16ths UNC?

Agriv8 - 20/7/06 at 10:27 AM

from memory when i rebuilt mine.

I used the ones the go through the rocker shaft posts .

And to add my 4 peneth worth the good thing about weight in the RV8 is its all in the bottom end ie crank and flywheel.

And sod the mpg if i wanted mpg i would take the TDI passat

Ta, i would however like to point out that this is a fresh build from scratch so to speak so i have no bolts to use from any other part of the engine.

I'm wagering on 3/8 UNC then and I reckon they are studs not bolts. other end of stud being UNF for your regular nut. (studs will help line up engine/gearbox unless you mate them out of the car)

donut - 20/7/06 at 11:30 AM

Yep, just found out they are 3/8 UNC.

found some on the net....sweet!

Donut,

Fresh build

you are missing the best bit cleaning 25 years worth of burnt on tar from every nook and cranney before you can even think about putting thing back together.

what cam fuelling are you lookin at?

Blimey, tuning it? He's got to figure out how to build it first!

So true...so true

Cam fuelling...what the hell is that?.......it's going to be a long road!!

Does it have a separate engine to drive the cams? I'd run them on Paraffin 'cos it's cheap.

Yup, a tiny little one to turn the cam round at the right time. Best to run this one on chip fat.

Got me bolts now and the engine is on the stand
