which sump plug washer?

I ahve a new sump plug but i don't knwo which washer i should be using

There is a plastic on or a metal on with a rubber inner bit??

it's a pinto

I am changing it as the last one had been put i with no washer and is thus leaking!!

use the rubber one but make sure both surfaces are clean and flat -run a smudgen of oil onto the rubber prior to putting it in.-do not over tighten just a nice nip.

The plastic one was fitted as standard by Ford

so is the rubber one better???

There was what looked like a very thin one on a sump plug i saw from another engine. the one in the pack i have is prob about 1mm thick

Rubber/steel ones are better. The plastic ones tend to loosen off and/or leak. Ive never seen one fall out, but Ive seen them awful loose. I always replace the plastic ones on customers cars when changing oil.
