Silicon Hoses?
Julian B - 26/7/06 at 08:10 AM

Hi all
I have been doing some research into water hoses for my v8 build.
It would seem that although Samco can supply all the bends and "T" Pieces I need the total comes to over £200, which seems a little excessive.

I can’t use the donor vehicle hoses so what bespoke hoses have you used?

Many Thanks

i've used gates rubber hose from my local lincos

I used the flexible black rubber convolouted ones from halfrods ( they have a spring in the middle to stop kinking ) sure other people do them .

Come in a range of lengts and sizes they dont look as nice as the samco silicone ones but do have the advantage in my case that I can move the radiator without draining the cooling system this enables me to get at inboard dampers ect.

can take some pictures of my setup if required required.

regards

Go to your local motor factors and ask to look through the Gates hose catalogue.
Somewhere in there you will find straights, 90deg bends, 45deg bends etc. etc. in all sizes. Doesn't look as nice as silicone but a sight cheaper.

hi,

what oil cooler do you have fitted to yoer v8 and where did you source it from?

blake

Julian B - 26/7/06 at 10:55 AM

The oil cooler is a mocal unit from ......EBAY...£20. It cost more for the plumbing but i have had to use a remote oil filter so it was just a case of placing it inline

When I was looking for 38 mm id hoses, to suit the RV8 I found that:

If you can find a RAM part number RH7159, you can cut it into a 90 deg and 45 deg hose
If you can find a RAM part number RH7442, you can cut it into a 45 deg and 2 off 22.5 deg hoses

Cheers

Series III landrover bottom hose, full of useful twists and turns, get a couple and chop them up, cost pennies from craddocks etc.

Rangerover top hose is a nice long option also.

A cheaper alternative (if you really MUST have silicone) IS Viper Performance but as BKLOCO said, the Gates catalogue is your friend

Also, Rally Design do samco hoses at a very reasonable rate.

Try Highbury Hose they've been talked about on here before and its where I got my silicone hoses from - they guy is very helpful and made me some bends with non standard length tails. Cheap for silicone hoses too.

I used domestic 28mm copper pipe from the local plumbers and hired a bender from the hire shop. Job done with only little bits of straight hose needed to connect to the rad, engine etc

Loads of bends, joiners, reducers etc, you name it its there!
