FlansS14 - 15/8/06 at 01:19 PM

Im running the Sr20det nissan 2.0turbo engine with the intercooler mounted infront of the radiator, the build spec says use a mk2 ecort one but i think i will need a more efficiant radiator even with "water wetter" added any ideas guys

Hi best bet is to try a one off made to measure all ally one try radtec sorry cant find a contact but should be easy enough to find. Expect to pay about £250-£300 tho. have had ones of them capable of cooling touring car spec engines in the front of westfields in the past .

cheers matt

Get a MK2 escort rad!

Then get it re-cored by Boston Rads for about £70.00

It's a high flow double core - I cant get my Zetec much above 85 degrees without some serious thrashing.

I cant locate the number for Boston Rads - but I'm sure somebody here can!

Plenty of my mates drift the 200sx's - awesome bit of kit!

Good luck!

definitely a polo 87-90 rad . even with no fan race 1390 engine runs at 85-90c on hot lydden wiht 1/3rd masked off

The Nissan tubo engine is very easy to overheat, especially with the intercooler mounted in front of the rad. Best to get an extra deep core made in whatever size you can cram in and make sure you have good airflow in and out.

Hi the polo and it's wider brother the golf one are marginal with 170-180 bhp zetects and vx 's. The so called escort hiflow that are also used in some of the locost racers are marginal also with 160-180bhp.

tjanks guys, custome ones do cost £££ but it may be needed, do any of the race guys use water wetter ti increase cooling efficiancy

obviously the turbo is cooled by water aswell so that will rise the temp allot

Hi funnily enogh there was just a discussion of radtec rads on the wscc forum and radtec quoted £260 for there polo equivelent (size i guess) with 50% more cooling.

cheers matt

Eh? I am sure my S13 was oil cooled

Have a chat with Wayne at ProAlloy, they will make a radiator to fit that does the job, quality of their work is exceptional. Can also make an intercooler too if you need it, could make the two together so the airflow is correct.

I know it's not "lowcost" in the true sense but I know I'd not want to risk warping a head (or at the very least changing a head gasket or missing a paid for track day) for the sake of an extra £250 for a proper radiator.

i have an s14 aswell

generally speaking they newer overheat unless the turbo coolant feed brakes.

i am in the process of fitting my car with a c20xe but turboed with a t28 off my sr20.

my intercooler is feed by a large scoop on the nose and i will use a R5 rad and a large oil cooler. i have no idea if it will overheat.

are you a member of the sxoc

There are two types of polo rad, one has a normal honeycombe type core & the good one has a very fine finned ally core which dissapates much more heat, try your local Sercks for a good one.
