MegaJolt, Megajolt lite, whats the differance?

Hello all,

I'm interested in finding out more about megajolt. I'm setting up my car at the minute with twin webbers, so i want a electronic ignition system, and i was looking at lumenition, and bestek. But most people keep talking about this megajolt. so I have a few questions. I've done the internet searches.

1. whats the differance beween jolt and jolt lite?

2. is it really that easy to use? (i'm not good with electrics?

3. where the best place to get bits from? can it all be got in one place?

4. Has anyone got experience of use on my proposed application?

To put it simply Megajolt Lite Jnr exists, Megajolt does not. Megajolt is an igntion system that the designers of Megasquirt had planned, but there has been very little progress made on it.

Easy to use or easy to install? It's very easy to use, the mapping software is fairly self explanitory, though the older Java based software can be a PITA to install. However, there is a new native windows executable now which solves this issue.

Installing requires some fabrication and a little wiring, but it's all fairly straight forward.

You can buy the unit ready built from the designer (Brent Picasso) or a belive a couple of people on here can supply you. I;m sure they will be along shortly. If you want to build your own then you can buy the PCB and pre-programmed micro from Brent and purchase the rest of the bits from Farnell, RS etc.

My system is not yet up an running, but it will be fitted to a crossflow ruinning twin DC OE's. With this system you have to use a throttle position sensor to determine engine load rather than manifold vacuum. The latest megajolt PCB supports both methods.


You need the following:

Megajolt Lite Jnr ECU
Ford Coil Pack + HT leads
Ford EDIS module
Throttle position sensor
Ford crank position sensor
Toothed wheel to fit on crank pulley.

The main work is getting the trigger wheel mounted accurately on the crank pulley and making a bracket to position the sensor next to the trigger wheel. The rest is just wiring.

Hi im just up the road from you and have it installed on my car, you are welcome to come and have a look at my installation and ask any questions.I can also supply a megajolt and other hardware if you are looking for a built one .
It is worth installing on a crossflow especially if the cam has been changed or other mods made and will solve the clearance problem normally found with webers and a dizzy on a crossflow.
