
Anyone considered using the 2.5/8 Litre turbo diesel engine and box in Locost.
Pajero or Hilux engine boxes?? Ramp the turbo pressure up and I'm sure 200bhp would be available. Plus the huge amount of torque...

The diesel debate has gone on for a while now
I'm guessing, but would think the engine/box in a Pajeiro would weigh best part of 250kgs.
That alone should put you off, let alone the racket it'll make, the incredibly noxious fumes you'll breathe, and the fact that everyone will
laugh at you
If you wanna go weasel, at least use a modern one from the latest golf etc etc!

Mount a 1.4 Turbo engine wich also produces 170BHP!!! 4 POT car engine...
almost busa power then...
(albeit with turbo)

p.s. to be fast you need revs!! everything wich is fast has revs!!!
with only 4000rpm you won't have much choice on speeds..

Shogun donor idea sounds great. You could also graft in the 4wd system and go trialling.
Ive seen these engine and boxes out of the cars and they look way to hooooge for a se7en. Looks can be deceptive though - what are the sizes and
weights?
I'm thinking of buying a Pajero and test drove a 2.5L TD. Sluggish would be an understatement.
just put in a Vauxhall XE..... (or, dare I say it before hellfire does, a bike engine)
both will make the same power, and the XE will be half the weight, the bike engine prob less than a third!
The extra torque is largely irrelevant as you won't be able to put it on the road with the short rev range and consequent poor torque spread
available!
If you can get a good diseasal that doesn't weigh too much, forget the gearbox and just bolt on a Torque Converter and a high ratio rear axle and
no reason the car won't be fast! No gearbox weight or losses no losses from missed gearchanges, this worked for Chapparal can-am cars in the 70s
running monster torque V-8s that didn't rev that high.
Next thing is to get it running with chip oil and a propane injection set up this is the diesel equivqlent of nitrous! Too fast for the customs man to
catch you and dip the tank :-) and doesn't smell so bad either though it may make you permanently hungry!
