Hi All, time to buy the gearbox, Im buying the main parts and then building chassis. So which gearbox do you think? MT75 or Type 9? Im going to tune the engine at some point, and from what I've read the 75 is better for power, but its huge, although lighter, although the type 9 is more available doesnt last long if you give it plenty of revs. So, which do you recommend? what about fitment? Im leaning towards 75 at the minute but want to know what you guys have done.

*Think* the MT75 might need some tunnel alterations to a book chassis but not a "locost" expert so not 100% sure.

If you decide to "tune" the engine then a donor Type 9 will probably disintegrate.

However, a BGH or Quaife version won't. Neither of which offer MT75 upgrades.

So..

Standard Type 9 - OK for standard power (but 1st gear ratio useless) (3000+ miles in my 2.0 blacktop car so far) but needs to be upgraded if you raise the BHP. Various ratios available from both BGH & Quaife for this

MT75 - OK for reasonable power but fixed ratios. No real upgrade path except to the modified Type 9.

Personally, I'd bung a donor Type 9 in there and save my pennies for a BGH box...

Hi the mt75 has no option for suitable gear ratios at an affordable price.

Type 9 boxes will take more bhp/tourque than you are likley to be putting through it and with all the gear ratios available to suit at an affordable price.
