just wondering if anyone can tell me were abouts i'll find the engine number on a 1300 x-flow engine out of an escort.

top of the block on a flat area near the exhaust port nearest to the front of the engine (nose pulley end)

Should be on a small flat area on the top of the block on the exhaust side, probably 2 letters followed by numbers if it hasn't rusted away . If unclear try rubbing the area with emery tape it may show up

Any ideas for when it still don't show up having tried the previous methods ??
