
Hi people... whats needed for the conversion of a 2ltr black top zetec into a kit car? i know the water rail and pump needs changing, and the coil
pack (and ecu is scrap) etc, but is there anything else needed, and roughly what is the cost of putting one in to replace the old pinto lump? thanks

why dont you want Bike power anymore mate
I would love to keep my bike engine, but im just a bit worried about the reliabilty of it and the outright cost of it if it does break due to it not
being a cheap bike engine in the 1st place. Also the conversion from cec to bec would take a lot more of my time (and money) in my garage which my mrs
isnt happy about!

I can understand about part two
but I think bike engines are perfectly reliable

mmm, i want to weigh up the cost of the two conversions before i commit to selling the blade lump (as its such a mint motor), as i would love to have
the bec, but her indoors is giving me grief for spending too much time with the car and not her! lol!
so what i really want to know is (forgetting the price of the actual engines) how much will it cost to convert from the pinto to a 2ltr zetec, and the
954cc blade lump...
If theres not a lot in it, then ill keep the blade and go for bec!
I've just started a build from scratch which is using a '99 Blacktop 2.0l. I bought the engine on its own at (according to some) the expensive price of £250. I thought that was reasonable. The coil pack and plugs can be used, but I think you will need an EDIS module for £20? As far as I've found so far, on the blacktop, you can keep the waterpump but add a new idler pulley to make the belt run the correct way. Loads of threads on here refer to it.

There is no alternative pump for the blacktop, you need to provide a mechanism whereby the belt drives the existing pump the correct way, ie an idler
wheel.
The alternative pump is an option for the previous silver top zetecs
so its sounding like the zetec is a much cheaper way to go about having more power then...
what is an edis module tho?
Electronic Distributor Ignition Something module I think. Can just run off a standalone ecu. try www.feoc.co.uk as they all use/play about with zetec's
do you need it if it runs megajolt etc?
how about conversion costs roughly?

Exhaust is on the opposite side and you might need a cat fitted?
As far as ignition goes, you can do without the EDIS module, megajot, etc. entirely if you wish. I'm using a 2.0l Zetec, using a complete
ignition from quad4rods.com. They modify your lower front pulley (these are all the same on Zetecs, as I understand, so you could ship them a spare
while you do other stuff on your motor), and they send back a complete ignition system. Cost? Approx. 150 quid ($315 USD). And it uses
off-the-shelf GM parts! Beautifully made stuff, too - a CNC-machined pickup that bolts on perfectly.....


Oh...and by the way... a Zetec on this ignition system holds a land speed record at Bonneville - guess it works, huh? With this setup (only 4 wires to connect, one of which is the tacho sender), you only have to worry about carbs, and no mapping, etc. - it's plug 'n play...
