Can it be fitted? Where I live I can't get a 5-speed rwd gearbox and starter that work with a zetec.
I plan to fit the 4-speed escort box and starter but the ring gear have to be changed to the 110 teeth escort.
As the starter engage from the other side (pulls from the gearbox side towards the engine) I should machine the flywheel to the starter to engage (The
original zetec works the opposite way being pre-engaged).
Thanks

dunno but the ring gear is a shrink fit - i.e. heat up the gear and as it cools, it grips the flywheel so the flywheel diameter needs to be machined
precisely right.
Have you considered using the whole fly wheel and maching that to fit the engine? I would image it is not DIY proposition as it will require
balancing.

I contact a shop that will machine the zetec flywheel to fit the 1600 ring gear.
The problem with the escort flywheel is that I need the 36-1 marks for ignition
MikeRJ, first thanks for your replay but I found that more complicated than changing the ring gear.
The escort flywheel also has a different bolt pattern than the zetec.

Just a thought, I'm fairly sure that some crossflow engined cars with four speed boxes came with pre-engaged starters, e.g. the Escort
Ebay Starter Motor

Unfortunatly where I live escorts use inertia starters only
