Will a 1.8 Pinto head work on a 2.0?

Well looks like the zorst stud hole on my 2.0 head is fucked never to be used again so...

I have a 1.8 engine too, I know that the 2.0 cams can go on a 1.8 engine for more power, but can I drop a 1.8 cylinder head on to a 2.0 block? Are they the same other than cams or are the valves e.t.c different?

Will fit. It will also knock the compression ratio up to about 9.5/10.5:1 from about 8.5/9.5:1.
Gas/air flow through the carb will increase & will possibly want rejetting for optimum performance.
Also your 2.0 cam will fit it a treat and I think the valves should be the same.

Will I still retain the "valves don't hit the pistons"?

Looking at the Haynes manual it implies the 1.3 through to 2.0 have the same head (at least for valve sizes) so I presume it will be the same for the clearance.

At least it also means I can salvage quite a bit from the 2.0 head too.

The combustion chamber in the head is smaller. You will have trouble with the valves hitting the pistons if the cam belt breaks if you are using anything other than a std 2 litre head...

I dropped a 1.6 gt head on a 2.0, apart from very high compresion ( very reluctant to start) I had no problems. (1.6 gt has same valves & cam as 2.0, just smaller combustion chambers.)

The combustion chambers are indeed smaller on the 1.6 and 1.8 heads, so are the valves and so are the throats behind the valves, the ports on the 1.6 head are proporsionaly bigger compared with the 2.0L but not as big. Putting the 2.0L cam in the 1.8 and 1.6 head is a very cheap power increase, putting the 1.6 head on the 2.0L block requires a lot of modification to get it right, including unshrouding the larger inlet & exhaust valves that you would have put in, this now increases the chamber volume thus reducing the CR to manageble level. It is no easy way to bigger bhp. The 1.8 head sits in the middle and makes little sense to put it on without a good deal of work. Putting on a standard 2.0L head would be easy and skim it 1 to 1.5mm while your at it or source the 2.0L injection head which has the inlet port tight turn blended much better and adds 5 to 10bhp on its own, skim that a bit and possibly use a thiner gasket.
