Sounds like they are out of balance ?

Can confirm that it sounds like they're not balanced properly...borrow a balancer off some one and set them up properly....makes a huge difference! Oli.

balancer smallencer

the way I found works is to kisten for an even beat from the exhaust (I tried listening to air flow into each carb but it is quite hard to tell which one is drawing in more).

Do you know how to set the idel and balance screws from first principles? (i.e. you got the dellort book?)

Loads of info here. Click on car carburetors, scroll down and click on DHLA. Brings up exploded diagrams, parts list and if you keep scrolling down, tuning info.
