Now this made me wonder about the manifold/cylinder head - again I have bolts but with spring washers - I think this arranglement is more ok or should I be looking at putting studs on too?

I would use studs every time. If a bolt rusts in there it will be a s0d to get the manifold off.
Use copper nuts too - they won't seize up on you.

From the strength aspect you can put more torque into a nut on a stud than a bolt. Particularily if going into ally.

I have bolted the manifold to the cylinder head. Less of a problem here as the bolts are torqued up quite tight - so they shouldnt come undone in theory!

chees for that - I thought about it myself, yes, it hard to believe but sometimes I do!! and that is what I have on the V8 without any probls so I'll leave them for now.
