I have a rather manky looking exhaust can that i would like to use for the time being, the problem being that its manky, dented, rust pitted.......but it has ambition

Does anyone know of a high temp filler I could use for smooting out the rough bits? It will need to be sandable and paintable!

I took a look online and at the local motor factors but all i can find is gun gum repair paste and standard body filler (P38/40). The body filler wouldnt take the heat im sure, and ive only used fire gum in the past and know thats no good for this kind of job Will the Gun Gum do it? Having never used it im not sure if its sandable???

I can only suggest fire cement. I use this in my wood stove but reckon you ain't gonna have much success with the different expansion of metal/cement.

What about taking a piece of stainless or aluminium to wrap round - I leave it to you how to keep it in place - big jubilee clips?

Or paint it matt black - it won't show up the dents so much.

You could weld it, or just wrap it.
