I was just thinking...I have a tuned pinto 1600 (cam, lightened flywheel skimmed heads) with a twin choke carb on it..(im feeling blonde at the moment
cause I cant remeber which one it is...I think its the one off the 2 litre)
I currently have the car setup to use the engine driven mechanical fuel pump....would it make more sence for me to fit a facet type electric fuel
pump?
Dunc
Not if the one you have works, I can't see the point in changing it. Spend the money on more go faster bits or a good curry!
good question.
as ^^^ said, unless mechanical one breaks, stick with it.
electrical ones are handy where you can suffer from vapour lock as they can be run prior to cranking thus priming the engine.
Mechanical has to be more effiecient since the engine is directly acting on the pump plus its pumping rate is driectly related to rpm.
electrical pump relies on mechanicl energy converted to electrical then back to mechanical, so an extra setp i.e. loss in there. .. but they can
inscrease security is you have a hidden switch to turn it on.
