Hi
Is the Mazda 3 the same duratec from the Escort z3 ?
and if the answer is yes ,the duratec 2.0 can fit in a Mazda miata tranny ?
Thanks in advancet
Felipe
Not sure if it is the same engine (and what's an Escort Z3?) but surely a Mazda 3 is front wheel drive, so a Duratec still wouldn't necessarily fit a Miata gearbox, would it?
The duratec motor in Mondeos etc is a Mazda bolt pattern I think, it definatly aint a Ford pattern. Makes you think there may be a lot more than the bolt pattern Mazda. Mabye no bad thing, Jap engineering at Ford prices & availability
I think you should check here
I think it answers your question.
This one is also interesting

not entirely convinced by some of that wikipedia article!!!
Surely the Focus RS used a zetec turbo not a duratec, and the new focus ST uses a Volvo 5 cylinder engine does it not?

The Focus Rs used a Duratec ST turbo which is a renamed zetec with a slightly different cylinder head. The original Focus ST (170) used a Duratec ST
also. If you check out theses cars note intake/exhaust side and belt driven cams. Duratec is chain driven.
Its all to do with marketing....

Apparently the duratec in the original ST170 is really a zetec with some fancy covers. & the new one is a Volvo motor, no bad thing either. Looks like Ford is making the best of its acquisitions.
But no one answered the question...will a miata tranny work in a duratec? My guess is no, since i have never heard of anyone using it.
I am using a T5z (z-spec t5) w/ a quad4rods bellhousing.

It would appear that non of us know!
But if the Duratec does use a Mazda bolt pattern its gotta be worth a look, it would be a cracking power upgrade for an MX5.
