Crank angles on Ford V6
NS Dev - 20/11/06 at 06:36 PM

Right, my quest to run megasquirt on my V twins has led me down the route of using a wasted spark V6 setup with some of the outputs unused.........

Problem is I can't for the life of me work it out!!!

I know the firing order of the Ford V6's is 1-4-2-5-3-6, and I know they must complete that firing sequence in 720 crank degrees, and I know the engine bank angle is 60 degrees..............

does that mean that the angle between each cylinder's crank throw is 60 degrees??????

I have been racking my brain over it to no avail!!!

I think that 60 degrees crankpin angle plus 60 degrees vee angle per firing event would give the right setup, but my head is going round and round!

If that is correct, which cylinder will be on exhaust stroke when no. 1 is firing??

Sounds about right. I think with 1 firing, 5 should be exhausting.

hmmmm, can't be done like I hoped anyway, wasted spark V6 only has 120deg resolution on its firing order and I need 60 degrees...........

back to the drawing board!

use the original bike coils..

or one coil per piston etc. etc.

Tks

The problem is that MS does not seem to support the odd firing angles required for a V twin.
