Just wondering what oil everyone is using in their 4ages and what they have experienced in use,ie,temp, pressure readings and failures.
I had semi synthetic in and then went to 5/30 mineral oil.only thing is the oil tends to run back when stood for a few weeks and I have to crank the
engine for a few seconds before switching the fuel pump on,bl@@dy thing fires too quick for the oil to get round .
pretty normal behaviour for used 4age's. even my 120v does that when it's been sitting for a while.
I have used 10w40 trhoughout all the 4age engines that I have used in the striker, I Once switched to castrol magnatec full-synth 10w40 and the engine
died within 200km's but that was at a very high milage.

I've always used Vauxhalls fully synthetic bought via the garage I use, its in a grey 5 litre container for about £17! ( that might be trade
though). I think that stuff is 10W40 too.
Thomas, yep old engines don't like the thin stuff as the tolerances have usually gone rather lax.

Must admit when I was a self employed mechanic I kept three oils only, used 10/40 for multi valve engines,15/40 for older stuff and diesels and
V8's and semi-synth for the oddball stuff like BMW engined Range Rovers etc.
Come to think about it thats what I keep stocked in the workshops I run now as well!
Only use the semi on Mercedes Econic lorries as they are a bit fussy, must be a german thing.
I think I'd better get some 10/40 in.
I also had the bottom end go with semi synthetic in,although it was down to a crap sump that I copied and should have known better.I still dont like
semi or full synthetic for these engines but the Aussie experts seem to advise to use it.
I must be old fashioned but I cant get into my head that oil that looks like water can stop metal to metal contact.
