Hi,
I just started up -for the first time- the pinto engine of my Tiger Cat . The injected engine (2.0 SOHC) runs for a couple of seconds and then stalls.
When working the throttle, I can make it run but if I hold the gas pedal steady, the engine will stall as well. What can I do to solve this problem?
The four exhaust tubes get hot just after a few startups. There is an occasional backfire if the gas pedal is pushed too hard.
I'm stuck.
tia for any help

It might be worth checking the fuel filter too.
If it runs OK by pumpimg thr throttle then check the TPS is working OK.
when my fuel pump died, i could keep the engine alive by pumping the throttle, holding it steady would kill it. Had to be frantic to even keep it
idling. What fuel pump and does it definately work? Is it still mechanical on the injected pinto? (id guess not)

Sounds like a fuel problem - enough in the line for the cold start valve to start it but not enough to keep it running. Check pump and filter
i take it were talking about an efi pinto here ? first thing rig the fuel pump with a separate feed to see if it runs bypassing the relay if it does then the pump relay is suspect,
nine times out of ten its the relay on these engines
If it's on standard injection then it sounds like it may be just firing on the afterstart enrichment, assuming it still sparks when it cuts out
which can be checked with a strobe light.
I'd check the connections to the Mass airflow meter and inlet temp, and the TPS pot.
IIRC all enrichments are done via the injectors.

Thanks for all the inputs. In the mean time I found a hole in the air inlet tube, will fix that first.
