i currently have a 2.0l dohc sierra engine, but the size issue is annoying me as the chassis is finished, therefore, iw as wondering which engines fit in the book chassis without any modification to it or the gearbox, is a crossflow ok?

Cheers, theo

Crossflow will fit fine, but a more modern engine may be a better bet in the long term. Toyota 4age or Ford Sigma may be worth considering but you would need to consider how to drive RWD gearbox. There are bellhousings available for a type 9 at a price.

IIRC only the X-flow fits the book exactly mostly due to engine height. You need at least an extra inch to get any Pinto into the locost unless you intend to drag your sump along the road! The only real problems are sorting the nosecone , bonnet and scuttle height, I am dealing with this now myself! Some people just ad another length of 25 box to the top rail, that seems to work but is I think a bit inelegant though it looks fine if you clad the thing with the side panels. I am presently working with a caterham pattern nose and this is more difficult as it is curved along the edge that sits on the top rail so I may try and find another that is taller or at least has a straight edge !

I am also using webbers onmy Pinto to save having a hole in the top of the bonnet and a Robin Hood pattern exhaust that exits low rather than over the top of the chassis rails though this does cause other issues maily with the cross brace which is coming out and will be refitted the other way around, High at the scuttle and low at the nose.

I hope this helps, don't give up on the Pinto yet!
