converting to bike engine
theohighland - 30/12/06 at 07:49 PM

i have all the parts to finish my locost with a 2ltr dohc engine, but that will leave me with problems with ground clearance, engine heigh, alternator fit etc and have had it suggested to me to use a bike engine.

However, i wouldnt know where to start with this, would i literally do the same but using a bike engine instead of car engine, or are there other things that would need to change too, propshaft for example?

I already have Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird carbs, could i just get the engine for this?

Sorry for all the questions!

youll need your prop modding

exhaust new engine mounts and a sprocket converter

your correct about the carbs

that should get you most of the way there

Id not chose the blackbird just because you have the carbs though, that particular engine is prone to oil surge problems when installed in a car unless dry sumped or at least Accusumped. In short there are better BEC engines to be had for similar or less overall cost, such as the R1 or blade, so have a good dig around in the BEC forum and read the various "which engine" theads before making any decisions.
