Been fitting my gauges today and came to the speedo and have forgotten about the cable. My engine is in and from underneath I can feel where the speedo cable attches into the gearbox but cant see it. Problem is how does it attach? The cable end has got no threaded connector. I am guessing it is via a sir clip? I have a new sir clip lying in my box of bits but cant remember what it is for. I suspect the two are related. Any thoughts?

OOHH you are going to have lot's of fun fitting your cable, i left acces from my tunel and it was a right BA****D to fit.

Hi,

I've bound the circlips together with a tin metallic wire so that it slipped easily into the gearbox speedo cable housing, than I snapped the wire when the circlips was into its place.

JP, sounds like a plan. I'll my car on the ramps tomorrow and give it a try. You mentioned circlips in the plural. Did you use more than one?

I would have been easier if I hadnt eaten so much over Xmas, but front wheels on ramps, and 5 mins with circlip pliers cable fitted fine

I've used a magnetic pickup on the drive shaft, but which is the best way to seal up the old speedo drive to stop oil leaking. Have tried silicone mastic and blanking plate but it still leaks.
