i read the following page:

http://www.answers.com/topic/ford-sierra

as you can probably guess its about the ford sierra, this is the info it gave about the diesel:

"2300 Base Diesel, 2300 L Diesel and 2300 GL Diesel (2304cc, 67bhp Peugeot Diesel engine)"

is that right that the diesel is a pug unit?

if so does that mean that it is possible to bolt a pug engine to a ford gearbox without modification?

just another one of those theoretical posts lol

would be kinda cool though to take the 1.9 unit out of the 205 gti

cheers

Matt

I only know that engine was not only pug but also a PIG

I think the ratio would not be great though. If the bell-house fits i doubt it. It was a really old iron-cast engine.

The petrol engines are aluminium.

It is a pug engine, but its a total plile of crap (also found in some LDV vans I think)

the 1.9D/ TD is a far better engine and totaly different (although I'm not sure if the bellhousings are the same or not) and its the one in the FWD pugs (so should be the same bellhousing as the petrol engines - well you'd hope wouldn't you)

I think the sierras use a type 9 box (same input shaft as the V6 ???) with a different bellhousing and a different top gear ?

I'm sure you could "make" it fit

"2304cc, 67bhp Peugeot Diesel engine"

Holy shit, that's a poor level of performance per litre!!!!!
You can see why diesels had such a bad reputation! That's 29Bhp/litre!!!

quick n stuff - 12/1/07 at 05:05 PM

the 1.9 gti engine is a good one but when installed it leans over at a angle. to put it uprignt some modification to the oil ways and pickup will be needed.

These are indenor engines i think, supplied to both Ford and Peugeot

This has been covered before as the MI16 engine is very attractive from a weight and power point of view. IIRC the 2.3 Diesel does not share the same bellhousing as the XU Pug engines. Some Sherpa vans used the 1.9 Pug diesel and there are rumours that the gearbox will fit the Mi16 and related engines. However I suspect the ratios are likely to be quite poor for a revvy petrol engine.

You can see why even that old ford 1.8D (from the 1.6 fiesta D) was a big improvment at 90BHP!
