Zetec Black Top misfiring
fideel109 - 14/1/07 at 07:59 PM

Hi,
I could use some Zetec advice.
I've installed a black top with TB's from Webcon, and a lightened flywheel from Tiger.
I've a problem with the second and third cilinder which are misfiring, this is getting better when the engine warms up
When I check the ignition with a timing light, I see that the ignition is sparking slower on the second and third than on the other cilinders.
It's either the second or the third cilinder which"s misfiring.
I'v changed the HT-leads, coil and spark plugs without any luck.
Anyone has an idea?
The only thing I could think of is, that the gap between the flywheel and the crank position sensor is too wide , could this be the cause?
regards-JP

That's certainly a possibility. Was the Tiger flywheel modified in any way around the reluctor ring?

The Tiger flywheel isn't as wide as a Standard Ford flywheel.
But why just the second or third cilinder which 're giving trouble?

Have you checked the wiring to the coilpack for loose connections/potential breaks etc? 2 and 3 share one half of the coilpack, you say you've changed it so maybe the wiring?

Get a compression test done, at the very least it will show if any compressions are down , if so it could be head gasket gone between cyls 2&3 or possibly valves. Not common but not unheard off

As already mentioned, 2&3 are always triggered together...I would check the wiring again first.....
