hi
has anybody done this/can this be done?
i can get my hands on a 1.9 GTI engine out of a peugeot 205 very cheaply. i know that the crappy diesel engine in the sierra was a peugeot unit so
could i mount the GTi engine and clutch to the type 9 gearbox without modification??
if not is it just a case of an adaptor plate for the bellhousing or will it also need a new input shaft?
cheers
Matt

This comes up regularly on here - a search will shed some light on the subject.
In short, the Pug motor won't bolt to any readily available RWD transmissions - you are looking at custom bell housing/adapter plate/clutch
etc.
Also the Pug engine is very tall, hence the reason it's mounted at an angle of approx 30deg from vertical in te 205 and other Pug models. This
means in a RHD drive car, the engine and exhaus manifold would clash with the steering column.
It's been done before, I have seen photos of a 7 with this engine fitted. However the general consensus seems to be that it's not worth the
hassle - a duratec would achieve more in terms of power to weight (if not cost) and there are plenty of people offering the bits to achieve the
installation.
It's a shame as they're nice light engines and there are plenty of them around too.

If you want a Peugeot engine, what about the M16? It's the D's B's according to Puma:
